FOND DU LAC COUNTY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A man was arrested after he led sheriff’s deputies on a 2.6-mile high-speed chase.
The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office around 12:45 p.m. Tuesday, callers reported a vehicle headed south on Interstate 41 near Highway 26 near Oshkosh in Winnebago County. The vehicle was reported speeding at more than 100 mph and passing traffic on the shoulder. A Wisconsin State patrol trooper had tried to catch up to the vehicle, but could not.
A Fond du Lac County deputy later spotted the vehicle speeding on Highway 175 near Highway B in the town of Byron. The deputy tried to stop the vehicle, but the driver sped up. A chase followed. Near the intersection of highways 175 and F, the vehicle side-swiped a semi tractor-trailer that was hauling milk, went into the west ditch of Highway 175 and hit a telephone pole.
The driver got out and tried to run away, but was immediately arrested. He and a female passenger were both taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
The sheriff’s department is recommending the driver, a 25-year-old man from Waukesha, be charged with felony eluding and first-degree recklessly endangering safety.
