DOOR COUNTY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — An 81-year-old Nasewaupee man was convicted earlier this month in a large-scale theft and money laundering operation.
According to a news release Monday from the Door County Sheriff’s Office, Dale Pautsch was found guilty Feb. 12 on 15 felony counts, including charges of theft from a business setting and money laundering.
It’s the conclusion of a 10-month, multi-agency investigation that uncovered 23 victims. Officials determined the total combined loss to be $1,138,000.
During the investigation, investigators executed seven search warrants and four subpoenas.
Pautsch’s property was seized, which consisted of a business in the town of Gardner, a house and rental properties in the town of Nasewaupee, two vehicles, a UTV, jewelry, and approximately $160,000.
Authorities are in the process of selling the seized property as part of a court agreement. Proceeds from liquidation will be used to cover restitution for the victims.
Pautsch is in custody at the Door County Jail awaiting sentencing, which is scheduled for May 29.
