GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – One of the suspects in a drug-deal related murder was found competent to stand trial Friday, and the criminal case against him will resume.
Elijah White, 18, is charged with being party to first-degree intentional homicide for the Aug. 7 shooting of Brandon Ramirez on Berner Street.
The competency ruling means he is able to understand the court proceedings and assist in his own defense. With the case resuming, a preliminary is set for Tuesday.
Three others – all also charged with being party to first-degree intentional homicide – are also charged in the case:
- Nigel White has a status conference March 4
- Dion Richardson has a plea hearing March 20
- Darian Pinchart has a plea hearing April 7
Richardson told police he made a deal to buy a half-pound of marijuana from Ramirez for $430.
“Dion told me everything happened so fast and the gun was on his head and he grabbed it. Dion said again he pointed the gun at him and told him to give me all that, give me that cash… Dion said once they got to Berner he pointed the gun right at him and the girl hoped over and started driving off while he was tussling over the gun. While tussling the gun went off, he hoped out the car, started rolling, hurt his leg and was limping when he went to Darian’s house,” a complaint states.
However, the woman who was driving the vehicle gave a different version. She was on Berner Street when another person entered the car.
“She heard the man behind her immediately say, “Don’t Move” and observed a black gun raised between her and (Ramirez) who was seated in the front passenger seat. (The woman) heard a gunshot and said the noise deafened her right ear and caused her to panic, suddenly realized (Ramirez) was shot in the head,” the complaint states.
Ramirez died of a gunshot wound to the head, according to the autopsy cited in the complaint.
