MARINETTE, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Michael Galbraith was convicted Friday in connection with a traffic crash which killed an 8-month-old girl.
Galbraith, 47, pleaded no contest to a reduced charge of homicide by negligent operation of a vehicle. Sentencing is scheduled for May 1.
He originally was charged with homicide by a vehicle with use of a controlled substance for the Oct. 6, 2023, crash.
Galbraith pulled out from a stop sign on Kamm Road at U.S. 41, striking another vehicle. The child died a few days after the crash. He said he stopped for the stop sign, but didn’t see the vehicle coming.
A blood draw was performed, and the tests showed Galbraith tested positive for the chemicals in marijuana.
In Wisconsin, motorists can have alcohol in their system up to a certain point and still operate legally. However, no such allowable limits exist for other illegal drugs, and any detectable amounts can result in charges.
