DETROIT (Reuters) – General Motors has finalized the complete acquisition of its Cruise autonomous vehicle unit to focus on developing the technology for personal vehicles instead of on robotaxis, the company announced on Tuesday.
GM in December said it would halt funding of the self-driving robotaxi operation following a year of trying to overcome challenges that arose after one of its robotaxis in San Francisco struck and seriously injured a pedestrian after she was hit by another vehicle.
