FOND DU LAC, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A Fond du Lac man is facing charges after he allegedly shot and injured another man with an air-powered rifle.
Just before 7:30 p.m. Thursday, officers responded to an apartment complex in the 400 block of W. Scott Street for a report of a man that shot a shotgun two to three times, according to the callers.
The suspect drove away from the scene before officers arrived. Witnesses were able to provide officers with a description of the vehicle.
A short time later, a Fond du Lac police officer spotted the suspect vehicle in the area of N. Main Street and E. Arndt Street and the 21-year-old driver was taken into custody.
Shortly after, officers were made aware of a 30-year-old man at the hospital being treated for a gunshot wound. Officers responded to the hospital and it was determined the victim was involved in the shooting on W. Scott Street. Police say the victim was shot at three times with an air-powered rifle designed to shoot pellets. Two shots missed and one shot hit the victim’s upper arm.
The victim was eventually released from the hospital.
“While the weapon involved in this shooting was an air-powered rifle designed to shoot pellets, I want to be very clear that the seriousness of this situation cannot be understated. Any firearm, whether conventional or air-powered has the potential to cause harm. FDLPD is committed to thoroughly investigating this incident, ensuring public safety, and holding this individual accountable for his criminal actions here,” said Fond du Lac police chief Aaron Goldstein.
