(VARIOUS) – The No. Marquette University men’s basketball team (13-2, 4-0 BIG EAST) wraps up a two-game homestand when the squad hosts Georgetown (12-2, 3-0 BIG EAST) at Fiserv Forum on Tuesday, Jan. 7 at 7 p.m. CT.
Following Tuesday’s outing, the Golden Eagles will have a week to prepare for the team’s Tuesday, Jan. 14 matchup at DePaul, but MU is currently in a stretch of the schedule that has the team at home in 4-of-6 outings.
Marquette Owns Edge In All-Time Series
Marquette owns a 23-14 advantage in the all-time series, with the Golden Eagles claiming wins in 13 of the last 16 outings and each of the last six.
All but two of the series matchups have come since Marquette joined the BIG EAST in 2005-06.
The programs first met during the 1941-42 campaign and the Hoyas were able to claim a 35-34 victory. The next meeting didn’t come until the 1971-72 season and Marquette posted an 88-44 winning decision.
Marquette pulled away for a 91-57 win on the road on Feb. 3, 2024 in the most recent matchup. Guard Kam Jones led four players in double figures with 31 points and David Joplin chipped in 15 points and four assists.

The guard hasn’t made his season debut since he suffered the injury last January.
The junior hurt his right knee in a loss to Butler and underwent surgery shortly after.
Coach Shaka Smart told the media back in November that Jones was participating in five-on-five drills which gave the Golden Eagles hope that he could make a return this season.
He averaged nearly six points to go with two assists and one-and-a-half rebounds in 16 games before getting injured last year.
Jones has two more years of college eligibility when he comes back.
Marquette’s Forbes named to Big East honor roll: Marquette University women’s basketball sophomore forward Skylar Forbes earned a spot on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll, the conference office announced Monday.
Forbes had two 20-point games last week including a game-high 21 points vs. No. 7 UConn on New Year’s Day.
The Markham, Ontario native had a game-high 21 points in the comeback win at Butler on Saturday, Jan. 4, including two free throws with one second left to seal the win. All 21 points came in the last three quarters.
Forbes shot 48 percent from the floor (13-of-27) and 85 percent from the line (12-of-14) for the week.
Phoenix’ Schiltz named Horizon League Player of the Week: For the second time in her career, Cassie Schiltz has been named Horizon League Player of the Week. The Horizon League announced the award Monday afternoon.
The Luxemburg, Wisconsin native helped lead Green Bay to wins over Wright State and Northern Kentucky this past weekend. She made five threes vs. Northern Kentucky last Thursday, the second-most in a single game in her career. Cassie also recorded six assists against NKU, tied for second-most among all players in the contest.
Schiltz filled the stat sheet against the Raiders on Saturday afternoon, grabbing two rebounds and tallying three more assists along with 13 points. Following the game, she moved into a tie for ninth all-time with Frankie Wurtz (2015-2020) with 163 made three-point field goals in her career.
