OSHKOSH, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Thursday’s winter storm may have coated the roads in snow and canceled some events, but families still found ways to have fun.
FOX 11 asked Brailynn Bellile in Oshkosh what she was doing in the snow. “I’ve been sliding everywhere, and just throwing snow,” she said.
Craig Bunda, who was also out in the snow, said, “Absolutely enjoying it with the kids,. We’re out playing snowball fights, we’re ready to make snowmen, we’re ready to have a blast. First real snowfall of the year.”
Bunda added he wasn’t expecting the amount of snow that came down. “I’m optimistic about it. We can finally get in the Christmas spirit a little bit.”
But he said he was prepared for driving in the winter weather. “Right set of tires and the right vehicle, makes all the difference.”
James Liedke in Appleton was shoveling his sidewalk after work and spent time playing with his daughter in the snow. “Lucy, you enjoying the snow? Yeah, she loves the snow. Me, not so much.”
He said the shoveling was easier than expected. “From what I heard, I expected more than this. Just wanted to get a head start on it. So, just glad I got home from work, and now just kind of cleaning up after it.”
Rick Helms with the Oshkosh Celebration of Lights was glad to have the opportunity for snowfall, making the display look more like a winter wonderland.
“It definitely is giving you the different look that everyone has been looking for,” he said. “The lights really reflect off the snow, and it turns it into just a picturesque area.”
Helms said while attendance was slow on Thursday, he doesn’t think it will last for long. “When we get snow like this, it’s definitely exciting, and we expect a big crowd this weekend.”
