(MARQUETTE COMMUNICATIONS) MILWAUKEE – The No. 10/11 Marquette University men’s basketball team (7-0, 0-0 BIG EAST) opened a two-game homestand with a 94-59 win against Stonehill (4-5, 0-0 NEC) on Wednesday night at Fiserv Forum.
Senior forward David Joplin finished with 27 points and seven rebounds and guard Kam Jones added 14 points. Joplin finished 10-of-12 from the floor overall and 4-of-5 from behind the 3-point line.
The Golden Eagles led by as many as 37 points and shot 60.7 percent from the floor for the game.
Marquette led 51-31 at the intermission, thanks in large part to 20 points from Joplin in 16 minutes of action. The Golden Eagles shot 62.5 percent from the floor and forced nine Skyhawk turnovers.
Notables:
- Wednesday’s meeting was the first between Marquette and Stonehill
- Marquette is 7-0 for the first time since the 2011-12 campaign when the team started 10-0
- Freshman forward Damarius Owens finished with a season-high 14 points (entered the game with five total points in three games)
- Joplin, who scored a career-high 29 points against Georgia on Saturday, scored 20-or-more points in back-to-back games for the third time in his career
