(LAWRENCE ATHLETICS) APPLETON, Wis. — The Lawrence University men’s hockey team dropped a 4-1 nonconference decision to visiting Saint Mary’s University on Tuesday at the Appleton Ice Center.
Lawrence was down 2-1 heading to the third period, but the Cardinals scored twice in the final 20 minutes to seal the victory.
The Vikings (3-5-1) were down 2-0 heading to the second after a pair of goals from Gabe Potyk in the opening period.
After Christian Tallarico was whistled for interference, the Cardinals (4-3-0) went on the power play. Lawrence cashed in on the ensuing man-advantage with a short-handed goal. Evan Izenstark knocked the puck away from the Cardinals near the Lawrence blue line, and Carter Cloutier took off with it the other way. Cloutier had a 2-on-1 with Miles McCue, but Cloutier took the shot and beat A.J. Ruskowski for a short-handed goal at the 17:12 mark of the second to trim the lead to 2-1.
Blake Green then scored for the Cardinals at the 8:50 mark of the third, and Nathan Solis added an insurance goal at the 13:20 mark to secure the win.
Ruskowski finished with 23 saves, and Ken Turelli made 25 saves for the Vikings.
Lawrence returns to action this weekend when the Vikings travel to UW-Superior for the Superior Showdown.
