OCONTO, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – While we’re nearly two weeks away from Thanksgiving, some are already thinking of Christmas.
Some area tree farms are already open, and others are preparing for families to pick out the perfect tree.
From ornaments, to trees ready for the taking, it’s looking a lot like Christmas at Whispering Pines Tree Farm in Oconto.
“We are very fortunate here, we have a very consistent crop of trees,” says Megan Yeska, co-owner at Whispering Pines.
The location is even hard at work getting other holiday decorations completed before the Christmas season.
T the National Retail Federation, shoppers are projected to spend on average a record $902 this holiday season between gifts, food, and decorations.
Whispering Pines is open for the season, with some already picking out their trees for the season, and other trees headed to other states.
“Right now, we’re getting all of our wholesale orders out the door and we have people all over the United States that are waiting for Whispering Pines trees,” said Yeska.
In Brown County, Santa Krause’s Christmas Trees in New Franken is getting ready for opening weekend after Thanksgiving.
For owner Ken Krause — this marks 50 years since he planted his first set of trees.
He’s encouraged by this year’s crop, which took years to mature.
“Early in the season, the wet weather delayed planting, but other than that it’s been excellent. Trees grew good, they’ve got good color, they’re healthy,” said Krause.
For both tree farms, it’s all about the memories made with families.
“We grow trees, the people come out, it’s just a pleasure deep inside to see somebody go out with a tree and they’re happy,” said Krause.
“Babies are now in first grade and that is very fun for us to see these families come every year,” said Yeska.
As these tree farms prepare for the masses, there’s just one thing that’s missing.
“A little snow to dress it up and put it into the season would be great,” said Krause.
