(MARQUETTE COMMUNICATIONS) MILWAUKEE – The Marquette University women’s volleyball team won the opening set but fell, 3-1, to No. 5 Creighton, 21-25, 25-12, 25-18, 25-13, on Sunday afternoon at the Al McGuire Center.
“So many things have to go well to beat a team that good,” MU head coach Ryan Theis said. “They’re five in the nation for a reason and they are really good at all spots. Going in we said it’s going to take 16 kills, two blocks and an ace. And it’s going to take that three times. We got it once. We had 17 kills in the first set and two blocks and an ace, but we only got it once.”
Outside hitter Aubrey Hamilton had 13 kills to pace the Golden Eagles (18-7, 12-2 BIG EAST), while Hattie Bray added 12 on a hitting line of .500. Overall, MU hit a combined .146, while the league-leading Bluejays (23-2, 14-0 BIG EAST) hit .356.
CU’s Norah Sis landed 23 kills on .429 hitting and fellow outside hitter Ava Martin hit .424 with 16 kills and 11 digs. Creighton setter Kendra Wait paced the Jays’ offense with 44 assists alongside three service aces with five blocks and 13 digs.
