(MARQUETTE COMMUNICATIONS) ORLANDO, FL – The Marquette University women’s basketball team fell at UCF, 57-50, in the season opener Thursday night in Orlando.
The Golden Eagles were down 12 headed to the fourth and outscored the Knights by five in the final frame. A Skylar Forbes three with 1:01 to play cut the lead to five but free throws for the Knights down the stretch sealed it.
The Golden Eagles (0-1, 0-0 BIG EAST) were led by Olivia Porter, who had 14 points, four rebounds, three steals and two assists.
Skylar Forbes (11 points) and Lee Volker (10 points) joined Porter in double digits.
UCF (2-0, 0-0 BIG 12) was led by Emely Rodriguez, who had 18 points and seven rebounds.
NOTABLES:
- Skylar Forbes hit a career-high three 3-pointers.
- Jada Bediako had a career-high two blocks.
- Olivia Porter made a career-high eight free throws.
- Lee Volker had a career-high four steals.
- Olivia Porter, Aryelle Stevens, Jada Bediako, Kennedi Perkins and Jaidynn Mason all made their Marquette debuts.
- Lee Volker and Halle Vice each earned her first career start at Marquette.
