(MARQUETTE COMMUNICATIONS) WASHINGTON, DC – The Marquette University women’s volleyball team capped its weekend road swing with a 25-17, 25-20, 25-9 sweep of Georgetown on Sunday afternoon at McDonough Arena.
Ella Foti and Aubrey Hamilton led the Golden Eagles (15-6, 9-1 BIG EAST) with 11 and 10 kills, respectively, and MU hit a combined .281. Marquette had 12 services aces in three sets and received two aces apiece from five players, including Foti.
MU hit .357 in the second set to comeback from an six-point deficit, and rolled to a 25-9 win in the third with a 15-2 run to close the match.
Georgetown (8-14, 1-9 BIG EAST) was paced by nine kills from Dionna Mitchell, who also added a match-best three blocks.
NOTABLE:
- MU holds a 24-4 edge in the all-time series and has won each of the last 21 meetings. Over that time, the Hoyas have won just three of 66 total sets.
- The lone match-up prior to MU’s entrance to the BIG EAST in 2005 was a four-set win by the Hoyas in Sept. 1996.
- MU setter Yadhira Anchante had 32 assists to push her to 2,950 in her NCAA Division I career. She’s currently fourth in program history at MU and passed both Lauren Speckman (2,852; 2016-19) and Elizabeth Koberstein (2,868; 2012-13) this weekend.
UP NEXT: MU returns to Milwaukee to open the month of November against Villanova (Nov. 1) and St. John’s (Nov. 3) at the Al McGuire Center.
