(247NEWSSOURCE) CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA – The greatest head coach in Virginia men’s basketball history is calling it a career. Former UW-Green Bay basketball player Tony Bennett is retiring from his position as head coach of the Virginia Cavaliers men’s basketball team on Friday.
In 15 seasons as the Cavaliers’ head coach, Bennett led the Cavaliers to 10 NCAA Tournament appearances and the 2019 national title.
His 364 wins are the most in program history.
Bennett had signed a two-year extension that was going to keep him at UVA through the 2029-30 season.
No interim head coach has been named yet with the Cavaliers set open their season against Campbell on November 6th.
