GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – A man who stabbed his father at a Green Bay mosque was convicted Thursday, but then found not guilty by reason of mental disease.
Abdullahi Ali, 24, pleaded guilty to attempted homicide and causing bodily harm to a health care provider. However, the mental health determination means Ali will be committed for psychiatric care for 26 years instead of facing prison, court records show.
Ali stabbed his father at the Islamic Society of Wisconsin on Velp Avenue on Feb. 22, 2023. Others subdued Ali until police arrived.
The complaint states that the victim told police that he and his son, Ali, were at the doctor to treat Ali’s mental illness earlier in the day.
“The two went to the mosque to pray and while he was in the prayer room, Abdullahi attacked him from behind with a knife,” the complaint states.
