GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – The owner of a Green Bay sports bar is helping make a difference for people who have been impacted by the devastation of Hurricane Helene.
Kevin Burkel owns Burkel’s One Block Over. He has two semi trailers parked on his property and is working to fill them with necessities to deliver to hurricane-stricken areas in Asheville, North Carolina.
“Their whole lives have been washed away,” Burkel said when asked why he decided to get involved in relief efforts.”I love doing this type of stuff.”
According to Burkel, some of the biggest supply needs include water and Gatorade, painkillers such as Tylenol and aspirin, pet food and bathroom products like paper towels and toilet paper.
He is collaborating with local churches and other businesses to coordinate donations and is encouraging community members to give whatever they are able.
“If it’s not filled tomorrow [Tuesday}, we’ll just keep going,” Burkel said. “But I’m hoping by the end of the day today [Monday], this thing will be pretty full.”
Burkel’s One Block Over is located at 1007 Tony Canadeo Run, near Lambeau Field.
