MARINETTE COUNTY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A driving tour in the Northwoods is underway to check out the changes in the season.
That includes the leaves on the trees in Marinette County.
At Dave’s Falls County Park just south of Amberg, water from one section of the Pike River is impressive, no matter the season.
Marinette County Facilities and Parks Director Martin Keyport says it’s all part of the fifth annual Fall Color Tour.
“That begins a month-long celebration of the colors here in the county. We have three driving routes, two ATV-UTV routes that are mapped out,” he said. “You can pull that map off exploremarinettecounty.com. It just gives you a great glimpse of our local businesses, the colors and everything that Marinette County has to offer.”
Tourism leaders say the self-guided driving trips cover more than 150 miles and include stops at places like a scenic overlook just north of Wausaukee.
“I’d say we’re definitely seeing some colors, and it’s gorgeous. The weather is perfect,” said Jason Block from New Holstein.
He says the Fall Color Tour is a good idea.
“It’s pretty neat that the county would give something out like that, to kind of give people that are interested in taking the drive, or making the drive up here, to have a designated route for them to check things out and take full advantage of it,” said Block.
Meanwhile, back at Dave’s Falls, visitors take to the trails. Keyport says no matter what the season, this park is impressive.
“There’s just something to see around every corner that’s a little different than the last corner,” he said.
The tour officially wraps up at the end of the month.
