(WNFL/LEARFIELD) – The Milwaukee Brewers defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates 7-2 in the first of a three-game series in Pittsburgh on Tuesday.
Milwaukee got five innings of scoreless relief out of its bullpen with lefty Hoby Milner earning the mound victory.
Brewers manager Pat Murphy said that the Pirates hit some balls hard.
Brewers starter Tobias Myers went 4 innings,allowed 2 runs on 6 hits and Murphy talked about his start.
Colin Rea made an appearance out of the bullpen for the Brewers which lead to Murphy being asked if that’s where Rea is headed for the playoffs.
Murphy said that he’s learning that Colin Rea is capable out of the bullpen.
Offensively for the Brewers, Junior Ortiz drove in three runs and Sal Frelick plated two more with a double. Willy Adames had 2 hits and stole his 20th base of the season.
The Brewers are now 2 games behind the Philadelphia Phillies for the second spot in the National League standings with 5 games left in the season. Philadelphia owns the tie-breaker between the 2 teams
The Brewers and Pirates play again tonight in Pittsburgh.
