KESHENA, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A new school in the Menominee Indian School District is bringing the community together.
On Thursday, the district opened the doors to its new $35 million high school in Keshena.
The 110,00 square-foot facility is located next to the old high school which is now converted into the new middle school.
Building a new high school brought all three schools onto one educational campus in Keshena.
“It’s a historic event for the school district and more importantly, it’s a significant moment in time for our community. It’s been a long time coming getting a new facility for our high school students. It also gives us the opportunity to relocate our middle school down here in Keshena and build more of a campus feel for our kids and kind of allocate our resources better,” said superintendent Marcus Denny.
Using natural, sustainable materials, the new building includes expanded labs for Menominee language, a field house gym, a technical education wing with wood and welding shops and a food harvest lab where students can learn to manage wild game as part of the Menominee culture.
