OSHKOSH, WI (WTAQ) — Olympic gold medalist and NBA player, Tyrese Halliburton, is back in his hometown.
Halliburton is hosting a basketball camp for the teams at Oshkosh North High School on Wednesday.
Halliburton graduated from Oshkosh North in 2018 after he led the Spartans to a 26-1 record and the 2018 state championship as a senior after scoring 30 points against Brookfield East in the final.
After graduating, Halliburton played college basketball for the Iowa State Cyclones before playing for the Sacramento Kinds starting in 2020. In 2022, he was drafted to the Indiana Pacers. He most recently earned a gold medal in the 2024 Paris Olympics while playing basketball for team USA.
Oshkosh North head basketball coach, Brad Weber, says Halliburton continues to have a positive effect on the community and the basketball players at Oshkosh North.
“Keeping this relationship with Ty continues to allow them to understand their goals are attainable,” said Weber. “And what a cool situation that they can be having conversations with a guy in the NBA about their own journey.”
Haliburton is partnering with Common Ground Healthcare Cooperative and ProCamp for Wednesday’s event to give back to kids in his hometown.
