GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A private school in Green Bay is kicking off the second phase of its expansion.
Providence Academy held a groundbreaking ceremony Monday to celebrate Phase 2 of a building project officials say will allow the school to better serve its students, staff and community.
Located on Shawano Avenue, Providence Academy is a “Classical Christian school partnering with parents to offer the region’s best combination of academic excellence, spiritual depth, and private school value.”
The Phase 2 expansion will boast seven new classrooms; a field house featuring a double basketball court and capacity for 500 spectators; increased performing arts spaces for choir, band, and drama; and additional multipurpose classrooms.
Since breaking ground on Phase 1 of the project in fall 2020, officials say the Providence Academy student body has grown by 61%.
“Often times we simply say that something like this is an answer to prayer, and it absolutely is. But in this case, if we look closely, we can see exactly how God answered those prayers. And it is, simply put, through the faithfulness of his people,” said Jared Bowers, a member of Providence Academy’s school board.
“Our donors [are] ordinary people who have seen what Providence is producing right now, has produced in the past, but also, more importantly, so that we can grow and expand and continue to do more of what we do well, and hopefully do it even better in the future,” Bowers added.
Rev. Chris Steinbarger, headmaster and chaplain, said after the success of the first phase of the construction project, he’s excited to see what the future holds for Providence Academy.
“Here we are, in 2024, and we’re about to expand again. Why are we expanding? Because God has filled this building, and we have the opportunity to add athletics space, classroom space, fields in the back,” Steinbarger said. “I am just so amazed at what the Lord is doing and I am looking forward to 2025 — when what is behind me over there is not just a field, but an addition to this building.”
