FOND DU LAC, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Smoke coming from a plastic garbage can prompted the fire department to respond to a Fond du Lac apartment.
At 1:30 a.m. Wednesday, crews were dispatched to 175 S. National Avenue for a report of smoke coming from an apartment building.
Firefighters found moderate smoke coming from an individual apartment.
When crews entered the apartment, they found a plastic garbage can that was smoldering. Firefighters removed the container and ventilated the structure.
The building sustained minor damage.
The fire was caused by the improper discard of smoking materials.
Citizens are reminded to check and maintain their smoke alarms and discard smoking materials with the use of a metal container and water.
