APPLETON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – The first Republican to enter the race for the 8th Congressional District, Roger Roth was hoping to be the last man standing.
His supporters gathering at the American Legion in Appleton on Tuesday night to watch the results for the primary that pitted him against businessman Tony Wied and State Sen. Andre Jacque.
Joined by his wife and their five sons, Roth addressed his supporters just before 10:30 p.m. Tuesday night, conceding the race to Tony Wied.
Roth campaigning on his business and military background, he was hoping to take that experience to congress, telling his supporter there is still much work to be done.
He said, “As tough as this night is for my family and my supporters, this is what the founders envisioned. They gave us a government where we had men and women of integrity, who would put themselves forward and compete on a set of ideas knowing that sometimes you would end up on top and sometimes you wouldn’t. But, in the end the republic would endure and it would go on. And I know that in some small way all of the effort from those of you here tonight and from my wonderful boys and wife and everything we’ve done will help to perpetuate this great republic of ours.”
While Roth didn’t say if he will actively campaign for Tony Wied in the November election, he did tell his supporters he believes Wied will do a good job representing the 8th congressional district in Washington.
