MARINETTE, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Friends of a Little Suamico man who went missing after his sailboat capsized last month have organized another community search.
32-year-old Bill Salnik and his two children went sailing July 13. Officials say their intended route was from Green Island in the bay to a marina just south of Oconto, but they never made it to their destination.
On July 15, their capsized sailboat, “My Lady Blue”, was found in the waters of Door County just south of Chambers Island, without Salnik or his children.
Later that day, searchers recovered the bodies of 5-year-old Charlotte and 3-year-old Joshua about a mile south of where the sailboat was found. Both kids were wearing lifejackets.
Salnik’s friends have planned another community search in hopes of bringing him home. It’s set to begin 8 a.m. Sunday at Menekaunee Harbor, according to a Facebook event organized by Mike Balzola.
“As time has moved on and more information has been brought to the table, we are planning another search day to find our friend/family member, Bill Salnik,” the event description reads. “We are asking for any help we can get!”
ANY BOATS capable of being on the bay we are begging you to show up! We need 4 boats to carry k9’s and any boats with sonar/livescope/panoptics/underwater cameras to join!
We have new information and locations we are going to be working! Please anyone that can come with a boat please please show up if you can!
Anyone without a boat or without access to watercraft is urged to bring binoculars/range finders and walk the shorelines to help search the surface of the water.
“Let’s give the family peace and give this another shot! We all want to bring Billy home!” the description concludes.
