MANITOWOC, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Two upcoming meetings are set for hunters to learn more about the bowhunting season in the city of Manitowoc.
The city allows hunting in an effort to reduce vehicle-deer crashes. The meetings will discuss the purpose of the hunt, the types of permissions needed to bowhunt in the city and safety rules.
The one-hour meetings are scheduled for Aug. 13, at noon and 5 p.m.
Application forms are available on the city’s website for hunters interested in participating and landowners who want to make their property available for hunting. Forms are also available at the front counter of the police department, 910 Jay St.
The city-owned property on Orchard Lane will no longer be open to hunting.
The hunting season follows the state archery season. This year, it runs from Sept. 14-Jan. 5.
Since 2007, the city says hunters reported tagging 474 deer within city limits. Last year, 15 does and eight bucks were killed. In that same time period, crashes were as high as 59 in 2014 and as low as 24 in 2022.
