OSHKOSH, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – A judge approved a management firm to handle the day-to-day operations of the Oshkosh Arena, as a foreclosure suit continues.
Bayland Buildings constructed the arena, 1212 S. Main Street. Bayland filed suit in June, alleging it’s owed more than $12 million. Fox Valley Pro Basketball has admitted it’s behind on property taxes but denied being insolvent.
On Monday, Judge John Jorgenson approved the receiver’s plan for VenuWorks to run the building.
“It certainly is in the best interest of the creditors that the arena does continue to operate to generate income and, hopefully, for some future success,” the judge said.
According to its website, VenuWorks is based in Ames, Iowa. It manages more than 40 venues across the country, including the arena where the USHL’s Cedar Rapids Roughriders play.
No trial date has been set. The court will check on the status of the case Feb. 10.
Oshkosh records show four missed property tax payments this year on Jan. 31, March 31, May 31, and July 31, totaling $637,491.42. The figure includes $41,705.05 in interest for the missed payments.
The main tenant of the arena, the Wisconsin Herd basketball team, has already announced several of its home dates for the upcoming season.
