SISTER BAY, WI (WTAQ) — A new trail from the intersection of Gateway Drive near STH 42 south to Northwoods Drive on State 57 is coming to Sister Bay.
This after the village learned it was getting a $906,000 grant from the Wisconsin Department of transportation.
“A bunch of the communities in northern Door County are working together to try and create a larger trail system where we can connect with each other, so people can go to and from the communities,” said Village Administrator Julie Schmelzer.
The addition of the 4,500-foot asphalt trail will have a positive impact on public safety, too.
“We have a lot of workers who walk to the hotels, we have people who walk into town, and we’ve had a number of accidents along there [State 57], so it’s always been a concern.”
Also, with more pedestrians using the trails, that means fewer cars and less congestion in the downtown area.
Schmelzer says construction of the trail will begin in spring 2025, and by this time next year pedestrians could be using the trail.
