APPLETON, WI (WTAQ) — Members of the Appleton Area National Organization for Women (NOW) are getting ready to rally on Sunday in support of the right to abortion.
The March Against Dobbs will recognize the two year anniversary of the U.S. Supreme Court decision to overturn Roe V. Wade through Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization.
“I was coming of age during the 1970’s when we were having a lot of these discussions,” said Appleton Area NOW chapter president Irene Strohbeen. “Every time I talk about the right to contraception I think ‘Why are we still having this discussion?'”
The Appleton Area NOW was started in April. As a group they also focus on economic equality, ending violence against women, and other feminist ideals.
The rally on Sunday begins at 1 p.m. at Pierce Park to make signs and prepare for the march. The march to Houdini Plaza begins at 2 p.m. At the plaza, guest speakers will talk about women’s healthcare and share stories.
