WAUPACA, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A man has confessed to four separate crimes in Waupaca, police say.
The 39-year-old was arrested late Wednesday night. No formal charges have been filed.
Police say earlier that day, they received a report that someone had reached behind the counter of a convenience store and stolen lottery tickets. A suspect was seen running from the 1000 block of W. Fulton Street.
Using a drone and a dog from the sheriff’s department, police found the suspect hiding in a wooded area and arrested him.
Police say the suspect confessed to the lottery ticket theft as well as these crimes:
- April 24: A break-in at a business where money was stolen
- May 23: An attempted break-in to an ATM, causing damage to the machine
- May 28: A business break-in with cash stolen. Police say they began suspecting the man early in the investigation. They found him in the downtown area, but he ran away when they tried to stop him. He went into an unlocked apartment and ran out the front door. Police were unable to arrest him.
Waupaca police say they plan to recommend multiple charges against the suspect in the case.
