FOND DU LAC, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – A woman referred to as a “habitual shoplifter” was arrested Sunday after allegedly stealing from a Walmart and then leading police on a high-speed vehicle chase.
Around 10:45 p.m., the City of Fond du Lac Police Department responded to the Walmart on N. Rolling Meadows Drive for a report of a female who was “actively shoplifting” from the store.
Officials say the suspect was leaving the parking lot in her vehicle when a FDLPD officer arrived on scene. The officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but the vehicle failed to pull over, ran a red light at the intersection of N. Rolling Meadows Drive and W. Johnson Street and fled southbound on Highway 41.
Law enforcement pursued the vehicle, which reached speeds of approximately 88 miles per hour, before the driver pulled over onto S. Hickory Street and surrendered. The sole occupant of the vehicle, a 37-year-old Milwaukee woman, was taken into custody without further incident.
According to a news release, she was arrested for felony retail theft, fleeing from an officer, felony bail jumping, second offense possession of marijuana, a probation/parole warrant and two Waukesha County warrants for shoplifting and retail theft.
