MADISON, WI (WTAQ-WRN) — A state lawmaker continues to push for creation of a task force on missing and murdered Black women and girls in Wisconsin.
Representative Sheila Stubbs joined other lawmakers, family members of victims and advocates at the Capitol last week. The Madison Democrat wants action from Democratic Attorney General Josh Kaul.
“He’s supportive of the bill. He has not created the task force he’s asking if it continued through the legislature. And let me just be clear, I don’t want to wait another six months. I want to do something now. If you are if you are employed as a constitutional officer to do something just do your job and just do it.”
A bill to create the task force passed the Assembly but never received a vote in the Senate.
A statement from Kaul’s office said the Wisconsin Department of Justice agrees that action is needed to address this important issue, and the agency remains committed to continuing to have discussions about obtaining adequate resources for a task force.
The proposed task force would be similar to the DOJ task force on Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls.
