MILWAUKEE, WI (WTAQ-WRN) — The Biden Administration has reclassified marijuana from a Schedule I drug, the most dangerous classification, to a Schedule III drug.
Now, Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson would like to see Wisconsin allow legal sales.
“Those are dollars that could be taxed, that could be then going to support things right here in Wisconsin. Whether it’s schools, whether it’s roads, whether it’s supporting local governments for the needs that we have. You name it, those dollars are being spent by Wisconsinites but Wisconsin is not benefiting from those dollars being taxed.”
Michigan, Illinois and Minnesota have all legalized recreational sales of the drug.
Marijuana remains illegal in Wisconsin, and while Republican legislators have blocked progress on legalization, that hasn’t prevented pot from “cropping up” at the Capitol in Madison. Several plants, apparently deliberately planted, were discovered in a tulip bed on the Capitol grounds this week.
