(WTAQ-WLUK) — Warmer weather is setting the stage for the return of sturgeon spawning.
The DNR said as of Thursday, sturgeon are starting to cruise along the Lower Fox River. Although no spawning has been observed yet, the fish can be seen below the De Pere Dam and along the wildlife viewing platform just below the dam.
It’s a similar situation at the Peshtigo Dam, where sturgeon are still present but spawning activity is at a temporary standstill. Meanwhile, spawning activity at the Princeton Dam, Sturgeon Trail, Bamboo Bend and Shawano Dam has stopped.
Officials predict the warmer temperatures in the forecast will lead to spawning resuming soon.
Sturgeon patterns can change rapidly, meaning they may be at one location in the morning and no longer present that evening. If you’d like to catch them at a certain location, make sure you get out right away.
