GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Brown County officials are highlighting drug take back efforts this weekend.
The Prescription Drug Take-Back Day goal is to provide a safe, convenient, and responsible means of disposal of prescription medications, while also educating the general public about the potential for abuse of these medications.
Health officer Anna Nick and county executive Troy Streckenbach held a news conference Wednesday to highlight the county’s efforts to combat fentanyl and opioid addiction and abuse, which the county declared a crisis in 2022.
Getting those unused medications out of your house is one small part in the effort to reduce fentanyl and opioid addiction and overdoses during Drug Take Back Day on Saturday.
Unused prescription medications in homes creates a public health and safety concern, because they can be accidentally ingested, stolen, misused, and abused.
“We can’t arrest our way out of it, we need to work with our mental health partners, we need to have better conversations with our children, and we need to have better response systems,” said Streckenbach.
