KAUKAUNA, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A pet dog died in a Kaukauna house fire.
Around 2 p.m. Monday, a street department employee called 911 after seeing smoke coming from the attic at a home at 800 Blackwell Street.
All occupants made it out of the home safely but the family dog was reported to still be inside.
The first arriving firefighters performed an aggressive interior fire attack. The fire, which originated in the kitchen, extended through a wall and ceiling to the second-floor attic space and was quickly extinguished.
Unfortunately, the dog was located but had succumbed to smoke inhalation.
The length of time the fire burned before being discovered by the passerby is unknown. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
The fire caused about $80,000 worth of damage.
