It’s still very early but the Milwaukee Brewers are the best road team in baseball so far after completing a weekend sweep of the Cardinals in St. Louis. On Friday night, the Brewers eked out a 2-1 win in 10 innings, on Saturday, they mauled the Redbirds 12-5 with a season high 18 hits and on Sunday, pitching, defense and one timely hit finished off the sweep 2-0. Colin Rea was spared a three run homer in the first inning when Blake Perkins snatched one over the wall robbing Lars Nootbar. The game stayed scoreless with Rea and four relievers combining on a five hit shutout. Bryan Hudson picked up his first big league win in relief, striking out four in two and a third innings. Sonny Gray meanwhile, was mowing down the Brewers with 12 strikeouts through his first six scoreless innings but in the seventh, Brice Turang and Blake Perkins got on base and Owen Miller, in his first start since getting called up last week for the injured Christian Yelich, delivered a two run single to left. The Brewers are now an MLB best 10-2 on the road and they improved to 14-6 overall, good for a two game lead in the NL Central Division race. The Crew wills stay out on the road to open a four game series against the Pirates in Pittsburgh. Joe Ross will be on the hill against Jared Jones in the opener from PNC Park. Pre-game coverage begins at 5:05 PM with a 5:40 PM first pitch on WTAQ.
