KAUKAUNA, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – A local library is offering more than just books to borrow. It’s also offering food for free.
Kaukauna Public Library communications coordinator, Jenny Schink, says the Little Free Pantry at the Kaukauna Public Library was created in 2017 in response to growing food insecurity in the area. It is completely donation based.
The Kaukauna High School Civic engagement class does a citywide drive once or twice a year to help keep the pantry stocked. The summer months are difficult to keep the pantry stocked.
The library is also using a hydrogarden to offer some fresh greens monthly. The library grows mostly lettuce, but also tries other varieties like bok choy or an herb like basil, and includes a recipe with the bag.
Anyone can take items from the pantry, which is available during all our operating hours. The library does not ask for any identifying information ever.
