(WTAQ-WLUK) — Despite the warm weather, wildlife officials report 432 lake sturgeon were speared in the 2024 season.
The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources posted its 2024 Successful Spearer List Tuesday.
Poor ice conditions throughout the sturgeon spearing season led to much fewer fish harvested than the previous season.
The Lake Winnebago system totaled 45 juvenile females, 102 adult females and 155 males.
On the Upriver Lakes, 26 juvenile females, 33 adult females and 71 males were harvested.
In 2023, a total of 1,405 sturgeon were harvested.
