(WTAQ-WLUK) — Wisconsin Public Service expects to have restored power to 97% of its customers who lost power during recent winter storms by the end of the day Friday.
The rest should at least have crews assigned by the end of Saturday, the utility says. WPS said so far, power has been restored to more than 80,000 customers.
Utility crews have been working around the clock to restore power to tens of thousands of people left in the dark.
WPS said more than 300 technicians from throughout Wisconsin and across the Midwest are working “non-stop on this restoration effort.”
As of 3:20 p.m. Thursday, more than 35,000 Wisconsin Public Service customers and more than 7,600 We Energies customers were without power.
For some in Northeast Wisconsin, it’s been nearly two days without power.
Some communities established temporary warming shelters for those needing a place to shower, charge electronics and stay warm.

As a result, some schools and businesses remain closed without power.
During a power outage, WPS recommends keeping your refrigerator and freezer doors closed as much as possible, use flashlights and not candles, wear layers, close blinds or drapes and avoid opening doors to retain heat and leave a light on to know when power is restored. If you’re using a generator, avoid generator overload.
