It’s a perfect start to the season for the Milwaukee Brewers as they completed a weekend sweep of the New York Mets at Citi Field Sunday with a 4-1 victory. Starter Colin Rea allowed just a run on five hits through five innings of work and in his Brewer debut, left handed reliever Byron Hudson worked three scoreless frames giving up a couple of hits and Joel Payamps finished it off for the save. William Contreras and Willy Adames each drove in a run and rookie Jackson Chourio capped off his big league debut weekend going two for four at the plate with an RBI. New manager Pat Murphy had his young crew running aggressively on the base paths that kept constant pressure on the New York pitchers and defense throughout the weekend. Chourio, along with Contreras and Christian Yelich all had five his in the weekend set and Rhys Hoskins had a big day at the plate in Saturday’s 7-6 victory, hitting a home run and driving in four. It was an eventful weekend for the former Phillies slugger. A hard slide in Friday’s game sparked a bench clearing incident and on Saturday, on his third at bat, Mets reliever Yohan Ramirez threw a pitch behind his head, drawing an ejection and eventual three game suspension by Major League baseball. New York manager Carlos Mendoza was also given a one game slap on the wrist, serving his suspension Sunday while Ramirez appealed his punishment and pitched again in Sunday’s loss. It’s the best start for the Brewers since 2018. Milwaukee will host the Minnesota Twins in the home opener at American Family Field on Tuesday afternoon.
