MARINETTE COUNTY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — In Marinette County, tourism officials are spreading the word through a relatively new campaign centered around a visitor guide.
25,000 copies of the latest edition are ready to go.
“The new 2024 visitor’s guide is out. You can pick it up anywhere around Marinette County. Restaurants, lodging places, there’s some visitor centers as well as at our county parks. So, it’s a great resource to figure out what to see, what to do, and all of our waterfalls are featured right in the center of it,” said Autumn Timblin, Marinette County Tourism Program Assistant.
Autumn Timblin says 15 waterfalls draw people to the area throughout the year. She says Marinette County also offers 442 lakes, and 920 miles of rivers and streams, including the waterway under the Peshtigo River Recreation Park. The 160-foot-long fish-viewing platform has been a popular spot since it opened in the fall of 2020. On Wednesday morning, Tom Miller and his daughter braved the windy conditions.
“It’s been amazing. Every time there’s a different fish spawn, like when the sturgeon will come towards the end of April, and stuff like that, it’s really amazing to be able to see everything,” said Tom Miller, Peshtigo.
Just downstream, a lone fishermen tests his luck, casting for whatever he can catch.
“We’ve seen a couple of walleye down there. So definitely ebbing towards the walleye run, But we’re not there yet,” said Timblin.
Autumn Timblin says tourism in the county is growing, and says she hopes the new 56-page visitor guide will help.
“We’re looking forward, as we move into spring, and are getting towards this beautiful weather, that we can get people out to see the waterfalls, into our businesses, you know, some dining opportunities, and shopping opportunities, and get things going into summer here,” she said.
The 2024 Marinette County Visitor Guide is free for anyone to use.
