Daniel Pachecobolanos (Waupaca County Jail)
WAUPACA, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – The motorist suspected of causing a wrong-way crash which sent three people to the hospital told police he had four beers in the time leading up to the crash on Highway 10, but drove because his friends had had too much to drink.
Daniel Pachecobolanos, 36, was charged with three counts of second-degree recklessly endangering safety and one count of causing injury while operating under the influence.
Pachecobolanos made an initial appearance Wednesday in Waupaca County court, where a $25,000 cash bond was set. He returns to court April 9 for the balance of his initial appearance.
At 7:55 p.m. Monday, officials responded to a two-vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 10 in the town of Weyauwega. Deputies say an eastbound vehicle was traveling in the westbound lane and collided with a westbound car.
Pachecobolanos said he and friends were on their way to Neenah from a restaurant near Weyauwega.
“He told me he decided to drive due to his friends drinking too much. I asked him how much he had to drink, he told me four Michelob Ultras,” the criminal complaint quotes from an officer’s report.
Due to his injuries, a field sobriety test was not performed. A blood draw was taken but no results are quoted in the criminal complaint.
Pachecobolanos did not have a valid driver’s license, and had no previous drunk driving offenses, the complaint states.
