OSHKOSH, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — The newly combined health system of Froedtert ThedaCare Health, Inc. broke ground on its new hospital in Oshkosh.
A groundbreaking ceremony was held Tuesday at the hospital’s future site at 250 W. 6th Avenue, along the Fox River.
The $84 million, 85,000 square-foot facility, is designed to be a smaller-scale, modern hospital that offers easy, around-the-clock access to emergency and inpatient care. It will be open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year.
Plans also call for 24/7 Computed Tomography scans, x-ray, ultrasound, mammogram, MRI and lab services. Also included in plans are a retail pharmacy, ambulatory surgery center with operating rooms and a medical office building for primary care and specialties.
Nearly 73% of Oshkosh’s residents live east of Interstate 41, while most of the current health care services are located west of I-41, meaning east-side residents are more than 15 minutes away from a hospital or emergency room.
“We want to continue improving the health of those living in the area by offering care to more of our communities, including emergency, primary and specialty care,” said Imran A. Andrabi, MD, FAAFM, president of Froedtert ThedaCare Health, Inc. “When minutes count, it is critical to have local access to comprehensive emergency care to support the best possible outcomes for our patients.”
It’s expected to be complete in 2025. Approximately 60 new jobs are expected to be created for caregivers and staff at the campus.
Last month, Froedtert ThedaCare Health Inc. broke ground on a hospital in Fond du Lac.
