ASHWAUBENON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – With Marquette moving onto the 3rd round of the NCAA division one tournament, fans are eager to see how much farther the team can go.
Eyes were glued to Marquette’s matchup with Colorado in Sunday’s Round of 32.
“They could do some damage, I think Houston is in their region so that would be a really tough matchup, but who knows,” said Marquette fan Curt Czachor.
With Marquette dancing into the Sweet 16, fans are feeling confident down the stretch.
A big reason for the confidence is Marquette head coach, Shaka Smart.
“It was a close game, nail-biter. Shaka Smart’s been really good in the coaching position this year and we’re excited to see what happens through the Sweet 16 now,” said Michelle Kurtz.
“He’s brought back the history of the program which is a great one for Marquette, but he’s moved us to another level in terms of talent and he’s just a great Wisconsin guy too,” said Rick Bondowski.
Bondowski and Czachor are graduates of Marquette University, and wouldn’t miss a second of his alma mater in the tournament.
Czachor believes Marquette’s veteran roster will be a difference maker down the stretch.
“I think that’s important come tournament time they’ve been together for a while,” said Czachor.
A number of Marquette fans repped their blue and gold at Stadium View Bar.
Manager Julia Haupt says march madness brings them a nice boost during a time without Packers football.
“After seasons, meaning like football, we have that slow month and then our March Madness comes in and just blows us away which is really great. And I would say probably for all of the bars in the area,” said Haupt.
Marquette’s first Sweet 16 appearance since 2013 has Wisconsin buzzing, as fans eye a run at a national championship.
