MANITOWOC, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — The preliminary hearing for Jesse Vang — the man who was caring for Elijah Vue and reported the boy missing Feb. 20 — will be held April 4, a judge ruled Thursday.
Vang is charged with one count of being party to chronic neglect of a child. He is not charged in connection the 3-year-old’s disappearance.
The preliminary hearing set for Thursday was scheduled before Vang’s attorney was assigned to the case, and they were not available to appear in court in person for the hearing, Judge Robert Dewane said.
The defense also filed a motion to dismiss the complaint or have prosecutors make it more definite. Since that filing, prosecutors did file an amended complaint. That motion may also be addressed at the April 4 hearing.
Katrina Baur, Vue’s mother, returns to court Friday for her arraignment on similar child neglect charges. She had placed Vue with Vang to care for him and teach him discipline, according to the criminal complaints.
Police have asked the public to check surveillance cameras for video of a beige Nissan Altima that may be connected to the case.
Anything found that may be related to the case should be reported by calling 1-844-267-6648 or through Manitowoc County Crime Stoppers online.
Rewards totaling $40,000 are being offered in the case.
Elijah Vue is described as having dark blond hair and brown eyes. He is about three feet tall, weighs about 45 pounds and has a birthmark on his left knee.
