APPLETON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — An active-duty K9 officer with the Appleton Police Department has died.
APD announced Thursday the death of K9 Faro, who had to be euthanized “due to a fatal health condition resulting in kidney failure.” Officials say Faro died peacefully, with his family at his side.
K9 Faro served the City of Appleton for just over two years after being partnered with Sergeant Rohm in September 2021.
As a dual-purpose K9, Faro was trained in tracking, building clearing, apprehension and detection of controlled substances. Throughout his service for APD, Faro completed 297 deployments.
“As we grieve Faro’s loss, we extend our deepest gratitude to our community for unwavering support of our K-9 program,” APD wrote in a Facebook post. “Your service will always be remembered, K-9 Faro. Rest in Peace.”
K9 Faro will be honored in a private ceremony in the coming weeks, APD said.
