APPLETON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Robots are helping reduce waste in Northeast Wisconsin.
Tri-County Recycling showed off its new AMP AI robotics technology Wednesday.
The robots are designed to efficiently capture dairy containers and other recyclables that otherwise may be missed.
Jordan Hiller, recycling and solid waste coordinator for Outagamie County, says the robots are not replacing people but are able to redistribute those people in other areas of need.
“The main thing is we wanted to recapture some of those commodities that were being lost or not put in the recycling in the first place, things like polypropylene or plastic number fives, so a lot of that can be your dairy containers, your deli containers, your yogurt. We really want to tell people that, hey, what’s in your refrigerator is curb-side recyclable and we want to bring it into our facility,” Hiller explained. “It just shows that we’re reputting back into the community. I mean these pieces of equipment are not cheap so it just shows that we’re putting capital back into our community to better help the environment and just the world as a whole.”
The Outagamie Tri-County Recycling Center serves Brown, Outagamie and Winnebago counties.
