MANITOWOC, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Jesse Vang, the man who was caring for Elijah Vue when he disappeared, filed a motion asking for his bond to be reduced.
Vang is charged with one count of being party to neglecting a child. He’s currently being held on a $20,000 cash bond.
The one-page, handwritten letter is dated March 14, but appeared late Monday in court electronic records.
“Dear Honorable Judge Robert P. Dewane, I would like a hearing to get my bail reduced. Thank you, Sir,” the letter states.
The letter was written before Vang had an attorney assigned to him. That attorney filed a motion Monday seeking to have the criminal complaint dismissed or made more specific.
Vang returns to court Thursday for a preliminary hearing. Court records do not indicate if either motion will be addressed at that hearing.
Katrina Baur, Vue’s mother, returns to court Friday for an arraignment, also on child neglect charges.
Vue, 3, was last seen Feb. 20, when Vang reported him missing. An Amber Alert was subsequently issued. Extensive searches have not resulted in Vue’s recovery.
