GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — Are you looking to cash in on the 2025 NFL draft by renting out your home? It may not be as simple as you think.
Discover Green Bay has put together a guide on short-term rentals for the draft in Green Bay. There, you can learn more about the necessary application, licenses, and inspections required for short-term rentals.
The first step is to apply for a Brown County license and arrange a pre-licensing inspection. Cost for the license is $350, plus additional inspection fees. If properties are listed without a license, property owners are subject to fines of up to $500.
You may also need to obtain a seller’s permit from the Wisconsin Department of Revenue.
Nick Meisner with Discover Green Bay says it’s also important to check in with your homeowners insurance.
“Normal homeowners insurance will not cover short-term renters,” said Meisner. “So if I were considering renting my house, I would call my homeowners insurance and say ‘I’m thinking about doing this, what is my coverage? What do I need to add?'”
The guide by Discover Green Bay also has more information on municipalities surrounding Green Bay, and their rules and regulations regarding short-term rentals.
“We encourage everyone who is interested in renting out their house to go about doing it the right way for the safety of themselves and their guests,” said Meisner. “This is an opportunity for Green Bay to be showcased; we want everyone to have a great time and so much of that is part of people’s accommodations and where they’re staying.”
